This breathwork continuing education course gives licensed massage therapists a 24-hour, live, hands-on weekend to bring breath into their client sessions. Co-taught by a Registered Nurse, built around your scope of practice.

A Course Built for Your Treatment Room

Liquid Breathwork: Breathwork Integration for Massage Therapists is a 3-day live weekend course. 24 hours of instruction, demonstration, and supervised practice.

You leave knowing the science of breath, a set of client-safe breathing techniques, ethical consent-based touch, and a complete session structure you can use with clients the following week.

It is a standalone course designed specifically for massage therapists and bodyworkers. Clinical in content, practical in delivery.

The Curriculum

What You Learn in 24 Hours

  • Breath science, taught by a Registered Nurse. Respiratory anatomy, the Bohr Effect, CO2 and blood pH, Polyvagal Theory, the vagus nerve, and why clients respond the way they do.
  • Ten client-safe breathing techniques. Circular connected breathing, the physiological sigh, breath holds, box breathing, humming for vagus nerve stimulation, and more.
  • Ethical hands-on touch. Grounding Hand, Gentle Rocking, and Hand on Belly. Fully clothed, consent-based, and inside the massage therapy scope of practice.
  • A complete 6-phase session structure. Introduction, opening breath awareness, activation, processing, integration, and closing, ready to use with clients.
  • Client screening and safety. Contraindications checklist, informed consent, and how to recognize and support common somatic responses.
  • Supervised practice all three days. You practice on real people with instructors watching and giving feedback, including a full peer practicum on day three.
The Weekend

Three Days, Start to Finish

Day 1

Somatic Awareness & Breath Science

Scope of practice, body-centered psychology, and the full science of breath: anatomy, biochemistry, and the nervous system, led by our RN. Ends with your first guided practice.

Day 2

Techniques & Facilitation

Every breathing technique, ethical touch with consent protocols, verbal cueing, and how to structure a client session. Ends with a full instructor-led session you experience yourself.

Day 3

Practicum & Integration

Supervised peer practicum with real-time feedback, bringing breathwork into your practice, a written assessment, and a closing session. You leave with documentation of all 24 course hours.

Your Instructors

Taught by a Nurse and a Breathwork Specialist

Shelby Von Oepen, RN

Clinical Science Director

Registered Nurse (BSN) with 14 years of clinical experience. Shelby teaches the science: respiratory anatomy and physiology, breath biochemistry, autonomic nervous system regulation, Polyvagal Theory, contraindications, and client safety.

Ryan McBurney

Breathwork & Facilitation Director

Creator of Liquid Breathwork, with 284 hours of professional breathwork education, 9 years of professional practice, and 4 years directing this training. Ryan teaches methodology, techniques, verbal cueing, ethical touch, and session structure.

Common Questions

Who is this course for?

Licensed massage therapists who want to bring breathwork into their client sessions as a body-centered, somatic modality. Yoga instructors, occupational therapists, mental health professionals, and wellness practitioners are also welcome. No prior breathwork experience is required.

Does this course count toward continuing education hours?

This 24-hour live course has been submitted to NCBTMB as part of our Approved Provider application, and CE credit is pending that approval. Every participant receives documentation of the full 24 live course hours upon completion.

Is the course hands-on, and does it fit my scope of practice?

Yes. The course is built around the massage therapy scope of practice. You learn ethical, fully clothed, consent-based touch techniques (Grounding Hand, Gentle Rocking, Hand on Belly), client screening and contraindications, and a complete 6-phase session structure, with supervised practice on all three days.
