What You Walk Away With

You leave ready to guide two sessions on your own: our signature Liquid Breathwork session and a Rebirthing session, from the opening and the breath to consent-based touch and the close. You also learn trauma-informed safety.

Ryan and Shelby actively guide multiple sessions every month. We share the exact strategies we use to build community and keep clients coming back, so you can book your first paid clients.

Both formats end with the same certification, taught by Ryan and Shelby in a small cohort. In person is three days in the room. Online is 12 weeks of live group calls plus 60+ video lessons. The graduate community and mentorship stay with you after.

If you can travel, come in person. Breathing in a room with your cohort is the one part a screen can't give you.

How Liquid Breathwork Differs From Rebirthing

Rebirthing grew out of Leonard Orr's work in the 1970s. Its core is conscious connected breathing, a circular breath with no pause between inhale and exhale. The Liquid Breathwork certification keeps that breath and changes three things.

Liquid Breathwork is a surrender-based inward journey: still powerful, but not as intense as some styles like Holotropic Breathwork, so you can actually go deeper through surrender.

  • Breath holds. We add intermittent breath holds that settle the nervous system into a deep calm.
  • Breather-led pacing. Every session is trauma-informed: the breather sets the pace and nothing is forced. We guide through gentle surrender, never forced catharsis or screaming.
  • Integration. You learn what to say and do for the breather after the session ends.

Five lessons from the curriculum cover the Rebirthing side of the method directly.

  • Techniques III: Breathing in Shapes
  • History of Breathwork: The Source and the Streams
  • Tetany & Why It's Safe
  • Anatomy of a Liquid Breathwork Session: Rounds & Holds
  • Intention Setting & Integration Prompts

The In-Person Immersive

Three days in the room, Friday through Sunday. Ryan McBurney and Shelby Von Oepen, RN BSN, co-lead every training. You receive sessions yourself, then guide your classmates while Ryan and Shelby give you feedback in the moment.

Cohorts are small, so everyone gets real reps guiding full Breathwork sessions. You graduate with the Liquid Breathwork Facilitator Certification.

2027 tuition is $1,997 early bird while early-bird seats last, then $2,497, with monthly payment plans. Want the online cohort as well? Add it for $300 more. We email the exact address before the training.

The 12-Week Live Online Cohort

A separate training with the same curriculum, run from home. Each week pairs one live group call with Ryan and Shelby and a video module you watch on your own schedule.

The calls are where the work happens: teaching, live breakout practice, feedback on your facilitation, and business coaching. In small breakout rooms you guide a classmate and are guided in return.

The next cohort starts March 9, 2027. Tuition is $1,497 early bird for the first 5 seats, then $1,797, with monthly payment plans.

Is There an Official Rebirthing Certification?

No. No single body sets the standard for Rebirthing, so every certificate is issued by the school that taught it. These are the groups you will run into:

Where Rebirthing Came From

Leonard Orr found the breath in a bathtub. The longer he stayed in the water, the more memories and emotion surfaced, and he learned that a circular, connected breath helped them clear. By his own account the big leap came in 1974 and 1975.

He taught it worldwide, wrote more than 30 books and died on September 5, 2019. Rebirthing Breathwork International and his direct students carry the work on. Ryan’s line runs from Orr through Dan Brulé. Our Rebirthing Breathwork guide explains how a session works.

Why the Word Needs Explaining

In April 2000, 10-year-old Candace Newmaker died in Evergreen, Colorado, during a therapy for attachment disorder that its practitioners called “rebirthing.” She was wrapped from head to toe while her therapists pushed against her to simulate birth contractions, and she died of asphyxiation.

The two therapists were convicted, and in 2001 Colorado banned therapies that use restraint. The BMJ’s report on the case drew the line: traditional Rebirthing is mainly a breathing technique, and what was done to Candace was a variant built around restraint.

What Our Graduates Say

Matthew Seibert, Liquid Breathwork certification graduate

Matthew Seibert - Healing practitioner, LBW graduate

“One of the things that really stood out for me during the training was a lot of the hands-on practice that we got, all the reps. It helped me feel more prepared and more confident in my ability to facilitate Breathwork on my own.”

He chose Liquid Breathwork after comparing several certification programs, and now brings Breathwork into the healing work he already does.

Sisily Chevalier, Liquid Breathwork facilitator

Sisily Chevalier - Owner of Body by Sisily, LBW facilitator

“So grateful for both of you, Ryan and Shelby. You’re changing my life right as we speak ... the ladies both booked for next week for paid sessions.”

After getting certified she had paid one-on-ones and a group session booked in Santa Clarita.

Krystal, Liquid Breathwork facilitator

Krystal - Realtor, nurse, LBW facilitator

“I was really looking for something that was more gentle, more supportive ... and Liquid Breathwork delivered just that.”

She arrived a beginner, after one Breathwork class elsewhere that felt like a lot. She left certain that everything we need is already within us.

Rebirthing Breathwork Certification FAQ

Is this a Rebirthing Breathwork certification?

It is the Liquid Breathwork facilitator certification, taught by Ryan, who holds a Rebirthing Breathwork certification. It is not issued or endorsed by a Rebirthing school or organization.

Is there an official Rebirthing certification?

No single body sets the standard. Rebirthing Breathwork International carries Leonard Orr’s teaching and certifies Rebirthing Breathwork Professionals, the British Rebirth Society sets practitioner requirements in the UK, and the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance sets cross-method standards for all Breathwork.

How long does Rebirthing certification take?

Rebirthing Breathwork International runs four levels of 3, 5, 9 and 3 days (17, 31, 59 and 17 hours), plus its One Year Seminar and ongoing mentorship. Our training runs on a fixed cohort schedule, in person in Phoenix or live online.

How much does Rebirthing certification cost?

Rebirthing Breathwork International shares tuition on request. The Liquid Breathwork certification is $1,497 online or $1,997 in person in Phoenix (early bird), with monthly payment plans.

Can I get certified in Rebirthing online?

Rebirthing Breathwork International runs some trainings online as well as retreats in Colorado and Maui. Our certification has a live online format with group calls, video lessons and recorded practice sessions that Ryan and Shelby review.

Is Rebirthing Breathwork safe?

Rebirthing Breathwork is a breathing practice. It is not the restraint-based therapy from the 2000 Colorado case that used the same word. Like any connected breath it needs screening first, and our training covers contraindications and tetany, the tingling and cramping a faster breath can cause.

Can I pay for the training over time?

Yes. A deposit holds your spot, and monthly payment plans are available.
