SOMA Breath is a Breathwork method and instructor certification founded by Niraj Naik. Sessions blend pranayama-style rhythmic breathing, breath retention, music with embedded brainwave entrainment, and guided visualization, aimed at deep relaxation and heart coherence. You learn one system, and it runs the same way with every instructor.

The breath retentions create brief intermittent hypoxia. We found no peer-reviewed study of the 21-day protocol itself, so treat claims about its specific effects as unproven.

Yes. SOMA Breath, Inc. holds the registered SOMA Breath® trademark, publishes its prices, and sells courses through a public store. Its Trustpilot profile shows a 4.6 TrustScore across 114 reviews as of September 22, 2026, mostly five stars, with a few complaints about support after paying.

The negative SOMA Breath reviews and SOMA breathing reviews on Reddit are about sales, not fraud. A 2021 r/breathwork thread titled "SOMA..an aggressive MLM scheme" describes the tier upsells and membership prompts; replies point out there are no downlines or recruitment quotas. Niraj Naik and the SOMA Breath Team

Most Niraj Naik reviews start with his story, told on somabreath.com. The former UK pharmacist was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, spent close to a year housebound, and recovered without medication through breathwork, diet, meditation, yoga, self-hypnosis and music therapy, which is where his "Renegade Pharmacist" name comes from. The page calls SOMA Breath "a holistic school and community, with no single guru," and names no other leadership. Certified instructors lead weekly live app sessions with him.

How the SOMA Breath Certification Program Works

SOMA's instructor training is three tiers, and you can stop at any one and teach with that credential.

Format and Timeline

SOMA Breathwork training is self-paced online (video lessons, audio meditations, assignments) with lifetime access to your tier. Many cohorts add an optional multi-day in-person immersion at SOMA retreats. SOMA says the coaching tier takes three months; most people take longer.

How Much Does SOMA Breath Certification Cost in 2026?

SOMA Breath certification costs $497, $4,497, or $6,497 (USD) by tier, per their certification page as of September 2026. The two upper tiers set up payment plans on the enrolment call.

You may have seen an $8,000 SOMA Breath cost, including on this page before September 2026. Several students who joined Liquid Breathwork earlier in 2026 were quoted about $8,000 on SOMA sales calls, back when SOMA did not publish prices. Go by the published numbers.

Facilitator Program ($497)

Ten self-paced hours, a ready-made SOMA Breath journey and licensed music, enough to hold your first class. Pay up front or $97 a month for six months. Level 1 is not sold on its own.

Instructor Certification ($4,497)

Levels 1 and 2 as one certification: 95 hours of trauma-informed training with one-to-one mentoring, and you can design your own SOMA journeys. This is the tier most people mean by "SOMA certification."

Transformational Coaching Certification ($6,497)

Everything above plus the coaching curriculum, 130 hours in total, with the 21 Day Awakening Journey, one-to-one coaching, multi-day retreat programmes, and 12 months of the BIG Membership.

BIG Membership (Business Add-On)

A separate monthly membership that holds most business support after you certify: promotional resources, templates, directory placement, ongoing training.

So how much does SOMA Breathwork training cost all in? Your total SOMA cost adds the BIG Membership after any bundled year if you want the business tools, plus the app membership ($9.99 a month or $89 a year) for the full music library. The music does a lot of the work, so ask about it on the sales call.

SOMA 21 Day Awakening Review

The SOMA 21 Day Awakening Journey is a consumer program, not a certification. A three-day introduction leads into three weeks of guided breathwork meditations that grow from 20 to 60 minutes, with four live Zoom sessions and downloadable audio. Per its own listing, it costs $497 with the live calls or $397 as self-study, is refundable within the first week, and has run since 2018 with more than 10,000 completions. Only the $6,497 tier bundles it. It is the cheapest way to try the SOMA method before instructor training.

The SOMA Breath app (App Store and Google Play) is free to download, with guided sessions from five minutes to an hour and up to four live weekly sessions. The full library needs the membership above.

I went through the SOMA Breath program about five years ago. There was good science in the curriculum and I learned a lot. The set sequence suits people new to Breathwork or sensitive to deeper sessions, and new facilitators often feel safer leading it than freeform conscious connected breathing. What I missed was room to adjust for each person in a mixed group, which is part of why Liquid Breathwork is built the way it is.

• Polished, low-cost entry. The training portal and videos are well made, and the $497 Facilitator Program sits well below the $2,500 to $7,000 many in-person programs charge. You can facilitate while working toward Instructor Certification.
• Stackable specialization tracks. Sports SOMA, SOMA for women, SOMA Awakening, and others.

SOMA Breath Cons

• The tiered upsell can feel relentless. Independent SOMA Breathwork reviews flag constant prompts to upgrade, renew, and buy extra certifications and bundles.
• One proprietary technique. A slow somatic session, a Rebirthing-style session, or a calming pranayama for an anxious client is not in your kit.
• Little mentorship in the room. Facilitation is best learned in person. The core training is on a screen, and SOMA's scale gives you peers more than a teacher who knows your name.
• Business support costs extra. The BIG Membership's advice comes from a large company, not from someone filling four classes a month.
