Fly In, Then Take the Train

We are based in Phoenix, and Ryan and Shelby teach the D.C. weekend themselves. All three airports reach the city by rail, so you can leave the car at home.

  • DCA (Reagan National). Its Metro station on the Blue and Yellow lines is joined to Terminal 2 by a covered bridge.
  • IAD (Dulles). Ride the Silver Line about 50 minutes into the city.
  • BWI. Take the free terminal shuttle to BWI Rail Station, then MARC or Amtrak to Union Station.
  • By rail. Amtrak stops at Union Station. From New York, the fastest Acela takes under three hours.
  • Already in the DMV. Arlington, Alexandria and Reston are on Metro, and Bethesda and Silver Spring are inside the DMV too.
  • May weather. Highs in the mid 70s, lows near 60, about a dozen wet days, and humid by month's end. Bring a light layer and a rain shell. The National Arboretum's azaleas often hold into early May.

Coming From Nearby States

Here is the trip to D.C. from the states around it, by train, plane or car.

  • Maryland

From Baltimore, the MARC Penn Line reaches Union Station in about an hour, stopping at West Baltimore, Halethorpe and BWI. On weekends it is the only MARC line running, on a thinner timetable.

Bethesda and Silver Spring are local. Treat this as your home training.

  • Virginia

Richmond rides the Northeast Regional from Staples Mill Road in 2 to 2.5 hours, through Ashland, Fredericksburg, Quantico, Woodbridge and Alexandria. Main Street Station is slower.

A daily Regional also runs up from Roanoke through Lynchburg, Charlottesville, Culpeper and Manassas.

  • Hampton Roads

The Northeast Regional runs from Norfolk to Union Station in about 4.5 hours. A Thruway bus links Virginia Beach to the train, and Newport News and Williamsburg have trains too.

Driving is about 200 miles on I-64 and I-95, by way of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.

  • Pennsylvania and Delaware

Philadelphia is about two hours on Amtrak from 30th Street. Acela and Northeast Regional trains also stop in Wilmington.

Pittsburgh has one daily Amtrak train by way of Connellsville and Cumberland, a drive of about 240 miles, or American nonstop to DCA. Cyclists can ride the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O towpath 335 miles to Georgetown.

  • North Carolina

The Carolinian boards once a day at Raleigh, Cary and Durham and runs to Union Station. The Triangle is about 260 miles by car.

American flies nonstop to DCA from Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte. Weighing your options? Atlanta is the other training in reach.

  • Ohio and Michigan

Cleveland flies American Eagle to DCA, United to IAD and Southwest to BWI. Akron-Canton has American Eagle to DCA, and Columbus reaches DCA, BWI and IAD. Detroit and Grand Rapids fly in too.

The other training in reach is Milwaukee.

  • New England and New York

Boston is a short nonstop from Logan to DCA. Providence flies into all three airports, Hartford into DCA and IAD, and Buffalo flies in too.

You can also pick the New York training.

  • Florida

Orlando has nonstops to DCA and IAD, and Tampa has nonstops too. From Miami or Fort Lauderdale it is about 2.5 hours in the air. Jacksonville weighs D.C. against Atlanta in March.

A Breathwork Session You Can Teach

You already teach pranayama. This weekend you learn to lead a full Breathwork session: how to open it, build it through the rounds and holds, and bring a room back down.

Fold it into the end of a vinyasa class, or offer it as a stand-alone workshop. You guide real breathers in the room, and Ryan and Shelby give you notes on the spot.

Four lessons that matter most when you lead a room.

  • Trauma-Informed Facilitation
  • Structuring a Session: The Energetic Arc
  • Phrases for Guiding a Session
  • Insurance, Waivers & Contraindications
